Harp Lessons
With nearly a decade of teaching experience, I aim to give students a strong foundation for whatever your goals are.
Hi, I’m Zane!
Teaching is at the heart of my musical identity. I began my musical journey at age 5 with Suzuki violin, and I’ve always been fortunate to have honest, patient, and kind teachers who nurtured my love for music.
In high school, I saw a harpist in orchestra perform the cadenza from Tchaikovsky’s Waltz of the Flowers, and I was completely captivated. This moment was a turning point, and I felt an unexplainable connection to the instrument.
The next year, I started trying to play our school’s lever harp and from that moment on, I was hooked. I was lucky to find my first teacher Naoko, who provided me with an incredible foundation.
Since then, I’ve been fortunate to learn from leading harpists in our field. My identity and career have been shaped by the guidance of my incredible teachers, and I aim to pass on their wisdom and mentorship to my students.

Harp Lesson FAQs
Where am I located?
I offer in-person lessons in the Bay Area and also teach virtually via Zoom.
Do I need my own harp?
Yes — for home practice, you'll need your own instrument. However, a harp is available for use during lessons at my teaching studio. At your first lesson, we can go over rental options and help you find the right harp for home use
Can you teach me at my home?
Yes! For an additional travel fee, I am able to teach you from the comfort of your own home!
What type of harp should I get?
For beginners, I recommend a lever harp with at least 27 strings. A leverless harp is ok, but I find students outgrow them quickly. The most reputable brands are Lyon and Healy and Salvi. I recommend renting a harp from the first few months of lessons before committing to purchasing an instrument!
Who do I teach?
All ages! Whether you're learning for the first time, returning to the harp after a break, or preparing to study it in college.
What is a good age to start learning the harp?
Any person at any age can learn! The harp is very beginner friendly as you can make a beautiful sound from your very first lesson. For children, I recommend starting no younger than 6 years old.
How frequent are lessons?
For beginners, I recommend lessons occur once to twice a week for thirty minutes. This is to ensure that there is no tension that can lead to an injury. As you progress, lessons occur once a week and can range from 30 to 90 minutes. I also offer once in a while lessons to those looking to dip their toes into music without committing to a set regiment!
